art opening

Boingboing alerts us to an opening on Friday March 30 at Secret Headquarters for the works of Rob Sato and Ako Castuera. Like most every show they put up, this one looks really cool.

Silver Lake or Silverlake?

Let’s get this one out of the way early…

As L.A. City Nerd notes, the former reservoir, and by extension our ‘hood, gets its name from Herman Silver, the turn-of-the-century L.A. Water Commissioner. By City Nerd’s logic the lake is two words - so too should be the ‘hood. And the folk’s at Franklin Avenue point out that Silver Lake still has more bulk on the google index, but I notice Silverlake has more traction on craigslist.

In looking at some of our neighborhood businesses we find both the one and two word interpretations. The Cheese Store and Silverlake Wine swing both ways depending on where on their websites you look. The Sunset Junction sign welcomes you to Silverlake while many of the official sounding neighborhood associations lean heavily toward Silver Lake.

Clearly there is no line to be drawn in this quicksand, and this blog will freely flip flop between the two.
