Taste the World’s Most Award-Winning Coffee at Intelligentsia’s Los Angeles
Cafe
Last May, Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea purchased an auction lot of Hacienda
la Esmeralda’s famed Geisha coffee. This exquisite offering won Best of
Panama in 2004, 2005, 2006, and again this year in 2007 and garnered $130
per pound, the highest amount ever paid for coffee at auction. On November
15th, Los Angelenos will have a chance to taste this storied brew and judge
for themselves whether it measures up.
On Thursday, November 15, 2007, at 7:00 p.m., Intelligentsia Coffee Buyer
Geoff Watts will present Hacienda la Esmeralda at Intelligentsia’s Silver
Lake Coffeebar, located at 3922 West Sunset Boulevard. Admission is free.
Guests will receive samples of this unique and rare coffee, freshly brewed
to order on Intelligentsia’s Clover coffee machine.
A very limited quantity of the auction-winning Esmeralda will be available
for purchase at the event and for a short time following. The coffee will
sell for $99.00 per half pound and $55.00 per quarter pound.
Reservations for the preview party are not needed and more information can
be found at

Hors d’oeuvres and wine will also be served.
Come and enjoy - the Esmeralda is truly spectacular.
Just two and a half weeks after our store opening, this blog finds itself on an awkwardly timed yet incredibly exciting journey to Bolivia.
The agenda? Barista training in Santa Cruz, followed by intensive cupping in Caranavi. I shall blog from this trip, so stay tuned for updates and pictures.

This Sunday I will be hosting the first of many home brewing classes at the Sunset Junction shop.
We will go over brewing on the Chemex, French Press, Eva Solo, and Automatic Drip.
A sign up form will be available at the store later this afternoon.
The cost? $5
(Also, attendees will be able to purchase home brewing gear for 10% off after the class. Yay!)

Well guys, though you may not know it from the previous posts, Intelli.LA is devoted to something very specific. We are coffee roasters, baristas and fanatics who have come to Los Angeles from many corners of the globe to create the best coffee experience we can manage.
We set out about a year ago to create a place where the people of Los Angeles could come to share in our joy and excitement for great coffees every day.
Our coffeebar, at 3922 W. Sunset Blvd in Silver Lake, will open on August 15th barring any major catastrophe.

I encountered these guys a few years ago opening for my favorite experimental hip hop outfit Subtle. They were rad.
Tonight Portland, Oregon’s drum and viola duo Talk Demonic is bringing their stuff to Spaceland, and you should attend. It should be reasonably priced and very, very fun.
